Brooklyn may get a bad rap, but it is truly a great place to live. There is so much diversity, it's almost like traveling around the world when you visit different neighborhoods. The people are unique, the food is delicious, and the history is fascinating. Brooklyn was settled in the mid 1600's by the Dutch. I know that's pretty recent for most of the world, but for America, it's really old. They called the area Breuckelen, which means broken land, because of the many streams. Today Brooklyn is the largest of the 5 boroughs of NYC with 2.5 million people (yes it can be crowded). My students will post all of the things that they love about Brooklyn, and I hope you enjoy our tour.
I teach at Ditmas Junior High School in the Kensington section of Brooklyn. I teach English Language Arts to the 6th grade. I have 83 total students divided into 3 different classes. Overall, the students services about 1200 students. Our school website is: http://schools.nyc.gov/SchoolPortals/20/K062/The+Ditmas+Educational+Complex.htm
